New group

I've joined Ravelry.com http://www.ravelry.com a knitting and crocheting online group and as I was there looking at yarn, patterns, etc. my oldest cat was busily batting a ball of yarn around the living room, so I had to untangle it. Yarn is just to tempting for the cats.

More later.

Kittens, yarn blogs, and other matters.

I'm back. I've not done any drawing recently because I've been taking care of other things since I've been back.

I was fairly depressed for the first week, but a good cry, talking out loud to mom, and talking to my friends pulled me out.

Then I was too busy to draw. I was back in full swing the day after I got back I was a at school, trying to get things sorted out for the kids and the end of the year. EOG tests, 3 field days, and one art show later, I'm finally getting my head above water.

The art show at one of my schools went well. We had over 500 works, and the company sold over 2000.00 of framing packages, netting us around $400, for art supplies for next year. It was a great show, and I'm thankful to the kids and community for supporting it.

Also I've been crocheting myself a new summer bag. It's a market style bag in bright colors. Crocheting I can take along. I'm thinking of crocheting a couple more for groceries, and a couple more for other purposes. I'll post pictures when I get them.

I've joined an online knitting crocheting group as well called Ravelry. I'll link to it as soon as I can. It's a cool place for the knitting and crocheting community.

Also taking up time are the five kittens who are now about 6 weeks old and ready for new homes. I think two of them are going to a new home today, that leaves three. They are eating real food, drinking water, running, playing and exploring. A great deal of fun, and husband D. would keep all of them if we didn't already have four inside and four outside cats. We are looking for homes for the two outside ones that are tame too.

Here's pictures of the babies and short bios about each kitten.

Patches

Above is patches. She's the Alpha Cat, whose first at everything. A spirited female Calico she leads the brood on all adventures. She was the first to run, the first to eat, the first to fall into the bathtub. The first to climb the shower curtain trying to get out. She's a whirlwind and a lot of fun.

Sylvester

Sylvester is Patches sidekick. He's second in command and a couple of seconds behind trying anything she tries. He thinks up things for both of them to try as well. For example last week they were still in the box. It was Sylvester's idea to bounce out of the box by jumping up and down. Patches added grabbing the edge of the box and scaling the side and jumping to the floor. Two seconds later Sylvester was with her, exploring the room.

Tuffy_jr

This is Tuffy Jr. Her mom is Tuffy and she looks just like her. Tuffy's not really so tough, she was when she was outside with the other cats, but now she's a sweetheart to us here inside. Both have long hair and are grey tabbies. Tuffy jr. is a loving little girl. The first to run up to be petted.

Callie

Callie is a full long haired calico. She's the princess of the group and husband D.'s favorite. She likes me okay, but daddy is best. She knows she's special and wants special attention. A true kitty princess.

Spot

Spot was the first born, but is the most reserved. She likes petted, but does not like to join the fray to try to get attention. She prefers to wait until they are all done jockying for position, and then amble up to people. She also likes it if I just notice her and reach out and get her before she has to join them. She has one spot near her tail that is brown, and has a black, brown spot near her ear. She likes solitude and would make a great pet, especially for a writer or artist. I think she's an intellectual at heart.

Enjoy and if you want to come get one, let me know.

Sun. EDM Challenge 170-Draw a piece of cake

Okay, so the challenge is to draw cake this week, and I am determined to start a diet. That being said I was at Snickerdoodles the Coffee house near me, getting my caffeine intake, and noticed this cake. I didn't buy it, instead I bought an everything bagel with cream cheese as my brunch. A little bit better anyway.

Sat. sketch book exchange for the month

Zoe and I gave each other our own sketchbook back in Apr. and now are working on this month's in our own books. We will exchange later this month and then work on each other's in June.

Mine as you may remember is "Women, and what it means to be a woman."

Politics aside, the fact that a woman is running for President is very historic. So is the fact that a black man is running, but my book is on women. So, I looked up women's sufferage and reminded myself that the women got the right to vote in 1920. Finally in 2008 a woman is running for president. The first page shows pictures from sufferage, and the second Hillary's campaign.

We've come a LONG way baby!

Viva la Revelucion

This Thursday at the art group my friend Dorian mentioned that she bought a bumper sticker that says, "Stop whining and start a revolution."

Thinking about this, and playing with some copper that I bought for school, trying to see if it will work for the kids, I made this book. "Viva la revelucion."

We all agree change is needed we just don't all agree on how. This book is dedicated to my exploring how to change myself for the better, my immediate world for the better, and my country for the better.

Viva!

Thursday art group

This Thur. was the painting group I started at the local Arts Council. I did this work trying to be freer in my painting style while there at the group.

Wed.

Wednesday I went out to eat with a friend and to the Wal-Mart which is getting ready to move. A Super
Wal-Mart is opening in the area, so the old one will close on Tue. at 6 and the new one will open at 7 am on Wed. for a grand opening. The old one doesn't have much left in it, but we had a lot of fun. We hadn't seen each other for a couple of months, talked crocheting and knitting, and caught up on life.

Thank goodness mom has been better this week so I can go out some and enjoy life, without constant worry.

EDM Challenge #169 Draw your newspaper

This week I was going to school on Tue. morning when I happened to notice that ex-President Bill Clinton was going to be speaking in a town near where I live that night. I went and heard him speak. I figure that any time someone historic comes to the area you need to go see them, especially if you live in a very small area like I do. He is an excellent speaker. I am not trying to talk politics here, I won't do it, but it was historic and he was good.

So I picked up these two copies of our local paper. The first was on Mon. announcing the visit, and the second was on Wed. after the visit.

Dying and Living or A normal Sat. night?

Yesterday I went to a weaving workshop entitled Warping Wild Women or Material Men, and made a really cute Wild woman that I intend to give to a teacher friend who has a special day coming up, so I'm not going to post it. Before I give it to her, I'll take a picture and post it after.

Then last night my husband and I went to Winston-Salem to the Radio Shack, the art store, and the two major bookstores in W.S. I bought more Watercolor paper for the month, a new brush and a couple of art magazines. It was a nice evening out. When we came home it was about midnight, and I was really tired, so I crashed into bed.

At 2am I got a phone call from the assisted living where my mom is saying she had awakened crying and saying she wanted me to take her home. By the time I got there she was cognizant enough that she knew that I couldn't do that, but I stayed with her until her meds took effect and she calmed down. I sang her to sleep.

I got home a little after 3 am, and my husband was holding our pregnant outside cat that had never let us hold her before. She was really lovely and freaked out. He handed her to me, and I took her to bed. About 10 min. later she went into labor and I helped birth 5 kittens and petted her until about 6:30 this morning. Then I slept until 12:30 and went and saw mom again and fed her 5 bites of soup and a little tea. She was out of it, and so I sang her back to sleep. They said that this evening she got herself into her wheel chair and ate a little dinner. She is back and forth now.

It has been about a month since I've had a "normal" weekend, so birthing kittens seems kind of par for the course now.

Here's a very quick sketch of Tuffy and the newborns.
